Newton Co., IN Biography Newton County, Jackson Township. From A History of Warren, Benton, Jasper & Newton Counties, 1883. S.N. CALDWELL, M.D., was born at Pique, Miami County, Ohio, December 14, 1825. His parents were Samuel and Mary J. (Mitchell) Caldwell, natives respectively of Kentucky and Virginia. Samuel Caldwell's father was Matthew Caldwell of Belfast, Ireland, who came with his parents to Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, and where, in 1781, he married Miss Mary Pinkerton, after which he removed to Ohio, and died October 25, 1810. Samuel Caldwell was born in Fayette County, Kentucky, settled in Miami County, Ohio, and died July 12, 1840, leaving four children--Samuel N., Eliza G., Ormsby and Mary J. Our subject, at the age of twenty-one, and after a thorough education, entered the Cincinnati Medical College, from which he graduated in 1850, and immediately afterward commenced practice at Piqua, Ohio, where he married September 30, 1851, Miss Mary J. McKinney, who died February 23, 1873. July 29, 1874, he married Miss Henrietta Lester. Dr. Caldwell has been a resident of this county since 1865, and yet lives on the same farm, where he successfully pursues his practice.
