Newton Co., IN Biography PHILLIP BROWN is a son of Wentle and Nancy Brown, both natives of Pennsylvania, where they married and early removed to Tippecanoe County, Indiana, and there died. Their family consisted of six children--Daniel, William, Catherine, George W., Matilda and Phillip. Our subject, Phillip Brown, was born in Tippecanoe County, Indiana December 12, 1838. Inasmuch as his parents died when he was young, he began the struggle for himself in advance. When sixteen years of age he came to this county, where he had a brother, and remained until 1862. He also purchased land, and December 13, 1863, married Mary A., daughter of Ephraim and Elizabeth Bridgeman, and a native of Newton County, born December 12, 1844. After marriage Mr. Brown settled on his present farm, which is a good one, and also a comfortable home. Mr. and Mrs. Brown have been favored with the following named children: Ephraim, Nancy M., Martha A., Effie (deceased), George W. and Willie.
