In 1860 the population of Lake County was about 9,145 in about 1800
families, of those it is thought that about 1000 young men went off
to war. Many went into Illinois regiments which I haven't searched as
of yet so I dont know a total...like I said, this is just a reference.
But I figure, some information to go on is better than none.
The 20th regiment participated in the Battle of Gettysburg and lost
152 men and officers including Col. John Wheeler of Crown Point. Among
the 152 were George W. Edgerton and J. Richmond. I do not have a total
count as of yet of the Lake County men we lost to the Civil War, but I
will show here a list of ones that I have found in T. H. Ball's 1873
book "Lake County 1834 to 1872".
