This small and neglected cemetery is located to the south and west of the present church, St. Francis Xavier.
This is without a doubt the "Catholic at Lake" to which Timothy Ball refers to on page 140 in his book. This church
is just a block or so west of Indiana 51 where it enters the present city of East Gary.
East Gary in the earlier days was known as Lake Station (and is known as that in
2002, there's no such thing as "East Gary" now). The Catholic Church at that time was called the
Church of St. Joseph. It had been established in 1861, and had a membership of twenty families.
The property was valuated at $2000.00.
The survey was made by Mrs. Joseph E. Brown and Mrs. W.A. McBride of the Julia Watkins
Brass Chapter, N.S.D.A.R., Crown Point, Indiana, on August 4, 1957.
