Lake Co Obit STELLA WALLACE, 91 , PASSED AWAY LAST THURSDAY NIGHT Stella Louisa (Vandercar) Wallace, youngest of three children of Adna S. and Martha (Hogan) Vandercar, was born at Orchard Grove, Lake County, Ind., where she spent her entire lifetime of 90 years and 10 months and departed this life on January 27, 1944, following an illness of five months. She was the widow of the late Lester Wallace. To this union were born two daughters, Addie Izetta, wife of Carl Brownell, and Bertha Leona, wife of J. C. Kenney, both of whom preceded their mother in death. She was a member of the Methodist church and always taught in the Sunday School at the Orchard Grove school house. She was an active member in neighborhood activities and a great help during illness of her neighbors. She was known to all her friends as Grandma Wallace. She leaves to mourn her passing, three grandchildren, Tossie Ebert, with whom she has lived the past 30 years, Cecil Kenney of Hebron and Nelda Childress, Grant Park , Ill; 10 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren and many other relatives and friends who loved her kind disposition. Grandma Wallace was a pioneer of Lake county and lived to see a vast change from ox carts that traveled the Indian trail to the day of speeding planes. Many hardships were surmounted by her during these years. She lived to see her mother, father, sister, husband, both daughters and one grandchild precede her in death. Two step-sisters, Mrs. Tom Hall and Mrs. Bert Neff and one step-brother, Wm. Newkirk also preceded her to the Great Beyond. Grandma was very active in life and helped to rear four generations of children, and reared her granddaughter, Tossie Ebert, at whose home she died. Funeral services were held from the home Sunday, Jan. 30, at 2 p.m., with Rev. E. L.
