Lake Co., IN Obit LUCINDA, daughter of MR. and MRS. TRUMAN SKINNER, was born in Ontario county, NY, November 5, 1820, and died April 30, 1911, at the advanced age of 90 years, 5 months and 25 days. Her father died when she was quite small; leaving her mother with seven children. In 1828 her mother with her seven small children, left her native state and moved to Decatur county, Ind. When the family left NY state, they came part of the way in wagons drawn by ox teams. When they came to the Ohio river they embarked on a flat boat, on which they made the rest of their journey. They came very near being drowned several times on account of the boat colliding with snags in the river. They arrived in Decatur county in 1828; the country being then comparatively an unsettled wilderness. In 1839 LUCINDA SKINNER was married to LYMAN THOMPSON. To this union 7 children were born: The eldest, LAURA A., married W. T. SCRITCHFIELD, and died in Kansas October 1, 1886. ORRIN J., of Creston; AMOS P., of Lowell, and WILLIAM C., of Shelbyville, Ind., survive their mother. MARTHA, LEWIS and ALFRED died in infancy. In the spring of 1848 they came to Lake county, settling at Creston. May 20, 1852, she was called upon to part with her husband in death. In 1854 she was again united in marriage with GEORGE W. LOYD. To this union three children were born: The eldest, EMILY, was married to LEROY BATES. Her death occurred in 1879. LYMAN T., of Chicago, is the only child by the last marriage that survives his mother; JASPER the youngest dying in infancy. MRS. LOYD endured all the hardships and privations of early pioneer life in both Decatur and Lake counties. When she came to Lake county it was a wild and thinly populated country; she lived long enough to see it transformed into a beautiful and thickly populated country. At the age of 18, she united with the Baptist church, and for nearly three quarters of a century, she lived a faithful and consistent Christian life. Her earth life is ended and she has entered into that life Eternal, that knoweth no ending. She was a woman very highly respected by all who had the pleasure of her acquaintance, and will be greatly missed and sincerely mourned by many outside her immediate family. She leaves her husband, four sons, ORRIN THOMPSON, of Creston, AMOS P. THOMPSON, of Lowell, WILLIAM C. THOMPSON, of Shelbyville, Ind., LYMAN LOYD, of Chicago, two step-daughters; MRS. EDWARD STILSON, of Creston, and MRS. WILLIAM MALLAHAN, of Butte, Montana, one step-son, LEVI LOYD, of Kirksville, Mo., and many other relatives and a host of friends, to mourn her departure to that better land. Her funeral, which was very largely attended, thus attesting the esteem in which she was held by her old neighbors and friends, occurred from the Christian church Lowell, at 10:30am Wednesday May 3. ELDER JOHN BRUCE, her old pastor, preached an excellent funeral discourse. The Christian church choir furnished beautiful and appropriate music. Funeral Director, H. V. WEAVER, had charge of the burial services. The following acted as pall bearers: G. S. CLARK, G. W. DAVIS, T. W. CUSHMAN, T. D. DICKINSON, OLIVER SURPRISE AND B. W. LAYBOURN. Interment beside her daughter, MRS. LEROY BATES, in the Lowell cemetery. Those from a distance attending the funeral were: WM. C. THOMPSON, Shelbyville, Ind., MR. and MRS. LYMAN LOYD, Englewood, MRS. WM. MALLAHAN, Butte Montana, MR. and MRS. IRA LOYD, Englewood, MR. and MRS. RUSSELL MERRIMAN, Bangor, Mich., MR. and MRS. MILTON PETERSON, Hobart, Ind., MRS.
