Subj: Zouvers in Merrillville Date: 99-03-21 15:33:15 EST From: Jhead1000 To: AnoleLady Hi Kathy, I enjoy reading the Lake County posts. I'm not sure I am getting the full benefit of the Lake County site...time is a real problem for me. Today I am ditching church to do genealogy...This weekend, I got excited all over again about my trip to Merrillville Sept. 98. I looked through the 'Pictorial History of Merrillville' book...what a treasure!! Every time I read this book, I would wonder about the Floyd Pierce mentioned on pg. 30. There was also a prominent RANDOLPH family (pg. 21 & 55) and my uncle Floyd's mother was a RANDOLPH. Now I have added two families in Merrillville to my ancestors. The list is growing: MERRILLS, ZOUVERS, BARTONS, SAXTONS, PIERCES and RANDOLPHS -- all my direct ancestors!!! I could never live up to the reputations of these great pioneers. Actually, I was trying to write you a message to help me figure out the last two families and BINGO...there it was. This stuff is soooo much fun. There are two remaining mysteries. I can't seem to connect the Floyd Pierce on pg. 30 to my great uncle's father Marion PIERCE, 1841-1911. And second, I can't connect Cynthia Saxton, 1856-1928, wife of Henry Cass Merrill, 1852-1912 to the SAXTONS who owned the Saxton-Koch House pg. 57. Any new info on those early folks in Merrillville would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for all the work you do for us. Janet
