Lake County, Indiana JOSEPH KERTEZ, one of the oldest members of the Gary police department and who retired from the force on account of illness in January died Friday night at his home, 39th and Massachusetts, and was laid to rest in Oak Hill cemetary this afternoon. The dead man leaves 8 children. His wife, having died about two years ago of the same tubercular aliment which carried away the father. Joseph Kertez joined the Gary police force under Mayor Tom Knott's administration and rose to the rank of detective sergeant. He had been confined to bed for several weeks and his death has been expected for several days.
