                          JOHN CURTIS (Kertesz)

Age 81, of Chesterton, passed away Monday, April 21, 1997 at 7:18 
a.m. at his home.  He was born January 25, 1916 in Gary, IN.  He 
was the son of Joseph Louis Kertesz and Elizabeth Rose (Aszmongya) 
Kertesz.  He was married August 10, 1942 in Alexandria, LA to Ruby 
V. Baker, who preceded him in death April 15, 1990.  Also preceded 
in death by 5 brothers and 2 sisters.  He is survived by 1 son, 
Robert E. (Joan) Curtis of West Minister, SC; 1 daughter, Virginia 
L. (Bert) Lawson of Valparaiso;  5 grandchildren:  Kevin (Nitsa) 
Lawson of Spring, TX; Donald (Linda) Lawson of Conroe, TX; Cynthia 
(Jose) Pena of San Salvador, E.S.; Susan (Tony) Anderson of Ft. 
Lawn, SC; John Curtis, Melbourne, FL; 9 great grandchildren:  
Johnathan Lawson, Spring, TX; Argin, Sarah, and Curtis Lawson of 
Conroe, TX; Lute and Amel Pena of San Salvador, E.S.; Elizabeth 
Anderson of Ft. Lawn, SC; Danielle Curtis of Melbourne, FL; numerous 
relatives and friends.  Funeral services Friday, April 25, 1997, 11 
a.m. from the White-Love Funeral Home, 525 S. 2nd St., Chesterton, 
Rev. Jon Rumley officiating.  Interment Graceland Cemetery, 
Valparaiso.  The family will receive friends Thursday from 2-8 p.m.  
Mr. Curtis was a retired boiler attendant for the State of Indiana, 
he was member of the American Legion Post 170 in Chesterton and was 
a member of the Chesterton Senior Citizens.  Memorials ... to the 
Visting Nurse Association Hospice Program of Porter County.
