Lake Co., IN Obit CELESTA ELNORA PALMER, daughter of ADELBERT and MARIETTA (BURCH) PALMER, was born March 27, 1850, in West Creek township, Lake Co., Indiana, where with the exception of four years lived in Michigan, she has spent her entire lifetime. She was the first child of this pioneer family of nine children and the first to leave the seven brothers and one sister of this family circle. Early days of hardship left an influence of courage and strength on her character. The meagre school advantages of those days also gave her added desire for reading and observation which together with her deep love for the beauties of nature were characteristics of her, all her life. At the close of the Civil war, December 5, 1866, she was united in marriage to AMOS P. THOMPSON, who was her lifelong companion and who has preceded her in death but one year. Together with her husband she united with the Baptist church of Lowell, Ind. To this family were born seven children. MRS. ELLA MERRIMAN, MRS. ALICE LLOYD, MRS. MARY HILL, CHARLES F., IRVIN J., WILBUR P. and ADELBERT P. The last two have also gone beyond. To those who are left, the recollection of a mother's enduring affection is a fond memory. She was courageous in bearing her years of affliction until the end came peacefully on the evening of September 25, 1924, at the age of 74 years, 5 months and 28 days. Funeral services were held at the family home September 28, 1924, REV. C. A. BROWN officiating. Interment was made in Lowell cemetery. Undertaker Sheets had charge of the burial service. The following grandsons, HERBERT LLOYD, VERNE LLOYD, CLARENCE FULLER, GEORGE MAUCH, EVERETT THOMPSON and one great-grandson acted as pall bearers. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- USGENWEB NOTICE: These electronic pages may NOT be reproduced in any format for profit or presentation by other organization or persons.
