Subj: early lake co settlers Date: 98-10-31 23:10:04 EST From: INJACK1 Greetings fellow genealogist, I have not checked the Lake Co. site for some time. I was very impressed on the work that has been done. It has got to be one of the best I've seen. Hats off to all. You asked for descendants well here I am. I don't how ever live in the area any more, but many members of the family do. I moved away about 10 years ago to the Indianapolis area. I am descendant of Joseph Childers, one of Thomas Childers brothers. The Jane Childers that is listed in the first marriages in Cedar Creek is their sister. Joseph lived in Lake County at least before 1850, Maybe he came with Thomas? He was mentioned in one local history anyway. Also, the Jane Childers Holmns (various spellings) mentioned in early Lake Co. marriages listing (Lake Co. Lib.) married to a Wilder in St. John twp. they were married by a nehew of hers, she the Mother to the bunch. One of the founders of a early church in Lowell. She was married to a John Childers first he died in about 1826 or so. The family before moving to Lake Co. lived in Shelby County, Ohio. Many of the early settlers came from there or the Miami River Valley area. I've come across many of the same surnames in two area's. Any how, Joseph was the father of John D. Childers, who was the father of Andrew J. Childers who lived in the Lowell area all his life. He was my great-grandfather. He was married to Nora Metcalf, she was the grand daughter to Ozra Metcalf who was an early settler with his uncle. I've done a lot of work tracking some of these folks down. But any info about the Childers/Childress you find I would be happy to see. Let me know if I can help with any thing. Jack Childers ------- injack1@aol.com
