Newton Co., IN Biography ENOCH SPRY was born in Estill County, Kentucky, December 27, 1830, and is one of nine children born to John and Vina (Kimbrell) Spry. John Spry was a native of North Carolina, from which State he moved when a boy, with his mother, to Kentucky, where he passed the remainder of his life on a farm. Enoch Spry was married July 12, 1850, in his native State, to Mary Burton, a native of the same state. Their union has been blessed with three children, two of whom are living--Mrs. Isaac Kight and William. Elizabeth died when nine years old. Mr. Spry rented and worked farms until 1855, when he moved to Kankakee County, Illinois, and continued farming three years, after which he worked in a grist mill six years, and then resumed farming. In 1867, he came to this township and settled on a farm consisting of 1,280 acres, of which about 320 acres are improved. The business is extensive, and a large amount of stock is kept on the farm. Mr. Spry is a Democrat and a prominent farmer. Newton County, Lake Township.
